Tesla Autopilot Drives Searches

Last week a video appeared on Pornhub featuring adult film star Taylor Jackson and her boyfriend having sex while their Tesla Model X was on autopilot. Soon after, this marvel of technology was not only driving itself, it was driving millions of people to search “Tesla” on Pornhub.

On May 9th, Tesla CEO Elon musk responded by tweeting “Turns out there’s more ways to use Autopilot than we imagined”. “Shoulda seen it coming”. While Elon’s tweets usually just cause stock prices to fluctuate, he also managed to drive up searches on Pornhub.

Projecting results for May 10th (as of 3pm ET), our statisticians recorded over 3 million Tesla related searches since the video was first uploaded.

Star Wars: May the 4th Beat With You

Every year on May the 4th (aka Star Wars Day) we see a big increase in Star Wars related searches on Pornhub so Mashable asked the Insights team to take a closer look. In 2018, searches on the day grew 748% above average. That’s less than May 4th 2017 when they increased by 1048% but higher than the 633% increase in 2016.

Avengers Search Popularity

When the last Avengers Infinity War movie was released in 2018, it caused a 356% surge in ‘Avengers’ searches on Pornhub. At the time, that seemed like a sizable increase for an already popular search term. That was then, and Avengers Endgame is now. Men’s Health asked the Insights team to see what effect the new movie has had on searches.

Virginia Celebrates NCAA Win With Pornhub

In an unexpected turn-around, Virginia’s Cavaliers defeated Texas Tech 85-77 in the NCAA championship on April 8th. While game-time only caused a minor drop in traffic in the playing states (-5% Virginia, -3% Texas), post-game fans in Virginia celebrated their big win with a +18% surge in traffic at Midnight, compared to +7 in Texas.

‘Fleabag’ Leads to Religious Search Increase

Huffington Post asked Pornhub’s statisticians if the March 4th return of the BBC show Fleabag has any effect on Pornhub users. We found that immediately after the Season 2 premiere, searches for ‘religious’ increased by 162%, ‘nun’ by 145% and ‘priest’ by 103%.

Of the three terms, ‘nun’ is by far the most popular with more than half a million monthly searches, about four times that of ‘priest’.
