On September 8, millions of Norwegians across the country took to the polls to vote in the parliamentary election. Naturally, an event of this scale impacts traffic to Pornhub, and when our friends at Nettavisen asked our statisticians to pull the data, they were happy to oblige.
Beginning with hourly traffic compared to an average day, we found consistent fluctuations where our Scandanavian neighbors took the opportunity to sneak in a little private time away from the polls.
Knowing it would likely be a long day, many Norwegians took to an early morning session. At 5h, traffic was up +8% before dropping to -3% at 6h and remining below average until 12h, when it shot back up to +5%. Perhaps it was the people who missed their morning session looking for a little afternoon delight?

Traffic dropped again in the afternoon and stayed below average until 18h, when it began climbing. At 18h, traffic was up +3% above average, and by 19h it had reached its peak of the day, +13% above average.
After another drop until midnight, it climbed up to +4% and then +6% at 1h before dropping once more.
Election Day Traffic by Demographic
Breaking the traffic down by age group, we found some interesting results. The 18-34 age group was most active on the site between 11h and 19h, where their traffic remained above average, reaching as high as +21% at 13h and +20% at 19h. From 10h to 2h, it fluctuated quite a bit before reaching its highest point of the day, +34% above average at 3h.
The 35-54 age group saw even more pronounced fluctuations. Every couple hours it seemed to be up and down, going from +16% above average at 11h to -16% below average at 12h.
The 55+ age group saw the biggest spikes. While traffic from this age group remained well below average in the morning hours, reaching a max drop of -29% at 8h, it soon spiked to +22% at 13h, dropped to -20% at 15h, and then spiked to its highest peak of the day at +36% above average at 19h. The evening saw more fluctuations, albeit less pronounced. At 21h, they were -22% and at 3h, they were -25% before rocketing up to +28% at 4h.

Breaking the traffic down by gender, we found a major difference in behavior. The increase in female traffic was much higher throughout the day on average than male traffic until the late morning hours. By 8h, male traffic was down –15% below average, and remained well below average until 14h, when it briefly returned to normal. Whereas female traffic was up +12% at 12h and fluctuated up and down until the largest drop of the day, -17% at 21h. At 1h, female traffic reached its highest peak, at +19%.

So, what were people searching for during election day? The results weren’t exactly political in nature, but that could indicate people were coming to Pornhub to distance themselves from the events of the day, rather than lean into it.
Compared to the monthly average, “perfect ass” was searched +528% more, “milf masturbation” was searched +439% more, and “wife gangbang” was searched +428% more.
Our statisticians also found “tattoo” was up +355%, “oiled” was up +309%, “security” was up +220%, “sockjob” was up +206%, “nude beach” was up +184%, and “too big” was up +155%.

Finally, we wanted to know how traffic broke down by region compared to an average day. Nordland saw the biggest drop of all, at -19.4%. Next was Agder at -16.7% and then Ostfold at -7.9%.
On the other hand, traffic was above average in Rogaland, by +9.9%. It was also above average in Troms by +8.4% and Finnmark by +7.5%.
